History
Although ancient civilizations played
a basic version of soccer more than
3,000 years ago, the game was refined
to its current form in England during
the 1860s. Today, millions of athletes
compete on soccer fields across the
U.S., and worldwide, soccer boasts
more participants than any other sport.
Object of the Game
Players use their entire body, except
the hands, to kick or deflect a ball
into the opponent's goal. The team
that scores more goals than the opposition
wins the game.
